Vista is a city in Southern California and is located in north western San Diego County. Vista is a medium sized city within the San Diego Metropolitan Area and had a population of 93,834 at the 2010 census. Vista also includes portions of unincorporated San Diego County to north and east, with a county island in the central west. Vista is located just seven miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, and helps it maintain its Mediterranean climate.

Originally the lands of Rancho Buena Vista, Vista was founded on October 9, 1882 with an establishment of a post office. It was incorporated January 28, 1963 and became a charter city on June 13, 2007. Vista has more than 25 educational institutions for youth, and a business park home to over 800 companies. Vista was listed as the seventh-best place in the United States for family life, based on factors such as jobs and business opportunities, education, climate, and cost of living in a 2008 review.

Vista circa 1936  was known as “Rancho Guajome.” Vista area was originally inhabited by the Luiseño Indians, who lived on the land until the founding of the San Luis Rey Mission in 1798. The prosperity began to decline by the 1830s as Mexico became independant from Spain. The Mexican government began to grant land ownerships to a variety of people, this was the beginning the Rancho era of California. Three ranchos were granted in the Vista area: Rancho Guajome, Rancho Buena Vista, and Agua Hedionda Y los Manos.

In the 1850s the ranchos began to fade due to changing political conditions and the scarcity of water. A growing number of settlers came to the area after California became a state in 1850 and began to create smaller agricultural holdings. One settler in the Vista area, John Frazier, applied to open the first post office and after several attempts to name the city (Frazier’s Crossing and Buena Vista were already taken), Frazier finally chose the name “Vista”. With the opening of the first post office in 1882, Vista had officially arrived.

Inhibited by the lack of water, Vista grew slowly through the early 1910s to less than 1,000 people. With the vote of the people in 1923, the Vista Irrigation District had the necessary funding to construct a new water supply from Lake Henshaw. New buildings in downtown sprang up almost immediately. Agriculture began to flourish with crops such as tomatoes, celery, and citrus fruits. Some hillsides were also planted for avocados and by 1948, the Vista became the “avocado capital of the world”

Following World War II, agriculture declined with an influx of growth of population and housing. The City of Vista was incorporated on January 23, 1963. The frequent housing booms of the 1970s through early 2000s greatly increased the population of Vista. Numerous apartment complexes were also built in these booms. In the early 1990s, Vista became involved in a national controversy when the Vista Unified School District board unsuccessfully tried to incorporate creationist, anti-evolution views into the biology curriculum.

Walnut is an affluent city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 29,172 at the 2010 census.

The city of Walnut obtained its name from the Rancho Los Nogales Mexican land grant, nogales meaning “walnut” in Spanish. With exceptions to some busy intersections and streets like Grand Ave and Amar St, the  city is relatively quiet in comparison to nearby neighborhoods like La Puente and West Covina. The city covers nearly nine square miles  and is home to hundreds of businesses.

More recently Walnut was one of Money’s Best Places to Live, “America’s best small towns,” ranked Walnut as #70 in 2009 and #57 in 2011, the highest ranking for a Californian city for both 2009 and 2011.

Walnut is located in the San Jose Hills and is home to several small creeks and streams that run throughout the city. Most notably of these waterways are Snow Creek, Lemon Creek.

The history of Walnut dates back to the Indians who were related to the Shoshone Indians. The Indians were called “Gabrielino Indians” by the Spaniards, because the Indians lived in an area controlled by the San Gabriel Mission. Back then walnut was primarily used for the grazing of cattle and sheep by the Mission. The city of Walnut got its name from the nut, walnut.

The City of Walnut’s Bicentennial Commission selected the construction of Lemon Creek Park and the restoration/ retrofit of the William R. Rowland Adobe Redwood Ranch House. In 1871, the Lemon Creek Park area became the property of Sheriff William Rowland, who inherited the 29,000-acre  ranch from his father, John Rowland. The modest structure built in 1883 served as the home of Mr. Meridith, ranch foreman for William Rowland. The adobe redwood ranch house is one of the few remaining original ranch style redwood and adobe structures in the area. On October 1, 1975, the State Landmark Committee placed the W.R. Rowland ranch house in the National Registry of Historical Places.

Westminster is a city in Orange County, California. It was founded in 1870 by Rev. Lemuel Webber as a Presbyterian temperance colony. Its name is taken from the Westminster Assembly of 1643, which laid out the basic tenets of the Presbyterian faith. For several years of its early history, its farmers refused to grow grapes because they associated grapes with alcohol.

Westminster was incorporated in 1957, at which time it had 10,755 residents. Originally, the city was named Tri-City because it was the amalgamation of three cities: Westminster, Barber City, and Midway City. Midway City ultimately turned down incorporation, leaving Barber City to be absorbed into the newly incorporated Westminster. The former Barber City was located in the western portion of the current city of Westminster.
Westminster is landlocked and bordered by Seal Beach on the west, by Garden Grove on the north and east, and by Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley on the south.

Westminster surrounds the unincorporated area of Midway City, except for a small portion where Midway City meets Huntington Beach to the south.
A large number of Vietnamese refugees came to the city in the 1970s, settling largely in an area now officially named Little Saigon, and the city is unofficially known as the “capital” of overseas Vietnamese with 36,058 Vietnamese Americans and at 40.2% (2010), the highest municipal concentration of Vietnamese Americans. Westminster won the All-America City Award in 1996.
